CAROLINA EAST CANCER CENTER
Danis Building Construction Company
My first coop was located in New Bern, North Carolina and took place from January 2019 - May 2019. This job was a 120,000 square foot addition to the already existing cancer center. This was my first exposure to a commercial job site. My responsibilities included: logging and filing daily/weekly reports, typing and sending out meeting minutes from the weekly subcontractor meeting, updating hard set drawings, weekly progress photos and reports, QA/QC checklists, RFI and submittal logging, and logging and filing inspections. I learned a lot about specifications for certain codes on this co-op. I walked with the quality control officer for Danis everyday to update punch list items and get a general update. Also, I was in charge of walking around with the New Bern city inspector for all of his framing and MEP inspections. I would highlight the inspected areas on a hard set of drawings and later update the digital copy and file it all in Bluebeam for the Danis team to refer to whenever needed.

PROJECT ANGEL
Danis Building Construction Company
This was my second co-op with Danis Construction Company and took place from August 2019 - December 2019. This job was a communication center for Ensemble health partners. This job was ~400,000 SF and $400-450 million. This co-op was very different from my first co-op in multiple ways. I was given a lot more responsibility and independence. This was a much larger job than my first co-op and exposed me to a lot of new things. My responsibilities included: Creating, tracking, and logging RFI's, Creating, tracking, and logging submittals, coordinating material deliveries, coordinating dumpster pickup/location drop-offs, site logistics for temporary parking and routes through site, weekly and monthly progress reports, inspection logging, weekly/monthly and final inspections, QA/QC reports, subcontractor safety coordination, weekly toolbox talks, weekly framing and MEP audits, and assisting with meeting minutes. I got an immense exposure to submittals and RFI's on this job. All submittals and RFI's were created and tracked in BIM 360. I was given the opportunity to perform submittals from start to finish. Starting with reading specifications and submitting a submittal, to the architect for approval to organizing material drop-off on site. Overall this co-op was a great experience where I learned a new aspect of commercial construction every single day.

SUMMER 2020
Software Training/Cabin Build
I was going to be co-oping with Danis Building Construction for my summer 2020 semester, unfortunately Covid-19 changed those plans. I decided to do a combination of the University's EEP program and individual project based work. The EEP program is a long list of available software trainings furnished by the University. I logged a total of 108 software training hours. These hours were split between the following (In order from most to least): Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Navisworks. The project based work was a 24' x 36' cabin located on my parents property in Hocking County. We started with tree removal in early June. There were a total of 13 trees to be removed, 5 of which were above 14" in diameter and required special equipment. The pictures below show a timeline of work we got done each weekend. My dad and I worked on this project together every step of the way. I worked residential construction for a summer in the past, so I had a good base knowledge of residential construction. However, I still learned a lot while working alongside my dad. The first four photos is a Revit model I made before the project started so my parents and I could visualize different layouts, colors, roof pitches, etc.. Overall, the summer of 2020 was very busy and progressive for me. I learned a lot about time management, critical thinking, planning, and logistics regarding residential construction.

SPRING 2021
Danis Building Construction Company
This term was my third co-op semester with Danis Building Construction Company. I worked in the estimating department from January-May 2021. This was my first co-op in an office setting. I was afraid I would not enjoy it, considering I am a very hands-on individual. Throughout my time in estimating, I grew to like it more and more. I was given challenging projects and learned a lot. My responsibilities included: Planswift quantity takeoffs, bid tabulation, bid filing and organization, updating and modifying SmartBidNet, calling and emailing subcontractors, building estimates within the ICE estimating software, and creating and updating numerous spreadsheets. Some examples of spreadsheets I worked on were for monthly material pricing and lead-time tracking, unit cost extraction and analysis, and bid tabulations. I worked with a great group of people who would take time out of their busy day's to help me if I had a question. They always gave me quality/challenging projects. Overall, I enjoyed my time in the estimating department. I acquired skills I can carry with me for the rest of my career and made some great friends.
SUMMER 2021
Danis Building Construction Company
This term is my fourth and last term with Danis Building Construction Company. This co-op took place from
May 2021 - August 2021. The structure during this summer has been primarily a three person crew. Myself, a fellow co-op, and Doug Frye (Senior Layout Specialist for Danis). Doug has been with Danis for 28 years and has been strictly surveying for 26 of those 28. He is a very knowledgeable individual and the best trainer I have ever worked with. As a group, we travel to different jobsites all across Ohio, performing various different tasks. These tasks include: topographical surveying, building control, establishing benchmarks, existing tie-in, stake-out, and identifying and recording structures or utilities in the path of the construction process. As a team, our primary mission is to layout structural building components per plans, specs, and existing building conditions. My responsibilities include: accurately and efficiently collecting data (shots) with the total station, analyzing and checking collected data, setting up targets or prisms for back sights/shots, driving hubs, tacks, nails, stakes, or pins for Danis field personnel to reference when laying out/building, quantity checking and general maintenance on all surveying equipment, and calculating/designing based off of new or existing drawings and specifications. Overall, I have learned a lot this summer so far and continue to learn more. I now have a great foundation in surveying/layout that I can utilize in my future career. Working with Doug and the other co-op has been a great experience and has taught me how to work well in a small team.
